Happy 4th! Brewers News and Notes

I have never been a Suter fan, I didn’t think his stuff played well as a starting pitcher. His mid 80s fastball and his lack of ability to make it past the 5th inning was concerning. But, he has turned it around, he has been throwing the ball well and pitching into the 6th and 7th inning instead of being pulled after five.

This is no surprise, Aguilar has been the Brewers team MVP so far this season. I wrote about him last week he has been one of the best 1st basemen in baseball.

It is interesting to think of Travis Shaw playing 2nd base, I think he has the glove to play there but, does he have the athleticism? Shaw at 2nd base opens up some possibilities of getting Aguilar some playing time at 3rd and moving Thames back to first. Thames is a liability out in the OF and once Yelich and Cain are back his playing time out there should be minimized. His position flexibility also allows for the Brewers to add a bat at third base and/or second base depending on what makes the most sense.

First and foremost Travis Shaw needs to get healthy. This wrist injury appears to be more nagging than the team let on, and he is clearly struggling at the plate. Especially with his lack of power in June and into July. A DL stint may be in Shaw’s best interest to help him heal.
