I saw this when I turned the game on today and I guess I never looked closely at It. Notice how bad of a hitting team the Brewers are without Cain, Yelich, and Aguilar in the lineup. The Brewers really do need some help on offense after Cain, Yelich and Aguilar bat.

If this happens to be true and the Brewers are looking to add Merrifield it would help out the lineup significantly. Merrifield is 29 years old and eligible to become a free agent in 2023. He offers power and speed with the ability to go 20/20 while also producing in batting average (career .287) and on-base percentage (career .334). My biggest question is can you get Merrifield while keeping Keston?
Adding Merrifield allows the Brewers to secure a solid second baseman for 4.5 years, and also allows you to use your top prospect to add that top of the rotation pitcher that the Brewers need. Let’s be honest, the chances of Jimmy Nelson coming back this season seem to be pretty slim, and if he does come back at some point he will have the training wheels on to keep his innings down. I also think that Zach Davies season is going to be over soon, there is something going on with his shoulder that seems to be more severe than the inflammation that was originally reported. Whatever it is, Davies doesn’t seem to have it this season and it’s hard to rely on him in a season where the playoffs are a legitimate possibility.
I would love to see Merrifield and Realmuto playing in Milwaukee. Two guys who will hit for average and power will add much-needed stability to the lineup after Cain, Yelich, and Aguilar.
This is my dream Brewers lineup for the second half of the 2018 season and into the 2019 season. This won’t happen, but a man can hope!
- Cain- CF
- Aguilar 1st
- Shaw- 3rd
- Braun- LF
- Realmuto- C
- Merrifield- 2nd
- Miller- SS
