Out of Maryvale, Arizona the Brewers have a couple prospects shining brightly so far. One I am most interested in right now is Lucas Erceg. Relatively unknown coming into the season, he has definitely caught me by surprise so far. He is ranked #7 in the Brewers farm system and was drafted in the 2nd round of last year’s draft, a tall 6’3 200 pounds he is a left handed bat and plays 3rd base.
In his first professional season playing rookie ball and single A, he played a combined 68 games he hit .301 with 9 HR 51 RBI 34 R and 9 SB. Look for him to start this season in single A again this season and eventually making it to AA by the end of the season. He has a clear road to the MLB in front of him, with Shaw the only other 3rd baseman there. He is athletic and with a strong arm, I don’t see him moving from 3rd base.
Relatively unknown still, look for him to continue climbing the prospects list over the next two years before becoming a significant contributor to the big league team. Another potential prospect Brewers fan can be very excited about.
